“Coffee With Your MLA” hosted by Chelsae Petrovic on Friday, January 24, was well attended by about 50 anti-coal advocates, inside and outdoors. Petrovic expressed surprise at the number of people in attendance and queried if it was because she was doing such a good job? She didn’t get the positive response she was seeking.
Conveniently her office is located at the single set of lights in Claresholm. For almost two hours, steady honks of support were received in response to the show of anti-coal banners and signs.
Petrovic claims she’s received more emails of approval for coal development than she has for “no coal.” Hard to believe. When asked about how many? Dozens? Hundreds? No idea. She doesn’t count them.
Action call #1: Fill her inbox: Livingstone.Macleod@assembly.ab.ca or call her at 587.424.2004. Remember to copy your letter to her to appropriate government ministers and shadow cabinet representatives.
Asked if she believed in science, Petrovic affirmed she only believed in “peer-reviewed” science and that she reads everything that is provided to her.
Action call #2: Link her chosen acceptable form of evidence to your email as well as other fact-based, scientific, verifiable links and or documents. Here’s four of the government’s own reports to choose from:
Petrovic assured us she would invite Energy Minister Brian Jean, Environment Minister Rebecca Schulz, and Agriculture Minister Sigurdson to visit our constituency to directly address our questions and concerns. When urged to post her initiative to invite them down on her Facebook page, she said she couldn’t do that. It appears her Facebook page is just for photo-ops. We asked how she would inform us of the results of her invitations? Well, if they agreed, she’d advertise it in the local papers.
Action Call #3: Petrovic is hosting an open house at The Hive in Nanton before noon on Saturday, February 1, 2025 and in the afternoon in Longview. (location unknown) Spread the word and attend if you can.
We will be following MLA’s, organizing and attending their events, encouraging the “Public” to attend, “Clean Water Pro Mountains” Group, asking tough questions.
