My brain was thinking one thing and my fingers entirely another.
In providing the (parts per) conversion of μg/g I wrote that it equals ppm or parts per million. It should have read μg/g = ppb (parts per billion).
My apologies for causing any confusion and brain fog beyond my own.

I think you were correct initially: 1 microgram of selenium per gram of fish tissue (dry) could be considered a ppm. A microgram of selenium in a liter of water (which is commonly how we measure it) is a ppb. Good article!
