Great protest in Lethbridge today
The people just kept coming

A protest rally and march happened yesterday in Lethbridge after people gathered at the Sik-Ooh-kotoki Friendship Centre. Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike continued to arrive in solidarity of protecting our Oldman watershed.
At least 300 people took part in the march which covered several blocks on 3rd Ave. S.
Before we set off, a prayer was given by Piikani Elder Evelyn Kelman (Crowshoe). The weather cooperated nicely despite the slushy conditions we walked in, but the falling snow waited until we were back at “base camp.” I attribute that grace to Evelyn.

A steady beat of a drum announced our procession and many horns honked to cheer us on along our way. Protesters were clearly encouraged by that and upon our return a young Piikani woman continued to beat a drum while quietly praying, as if calling us back home.
Some people left right after the march but the majority stayed on, as there was still much to talk about inside the Centre. Ideas and opinions were shared, discussions ensued, and it goes without saying that the Raging Grannies entertained once again with their authentic compositions dedicated to Northback and Gina Rinehart.
Next stop….Calgary. January 14, 250 5th St. SW. 11:30 AM.
Cheers and onward!
