Hate the Rebate? Take Revenge!
Invest your Dani-Dollars in "Harley's Vision" for a Clean Water Future
Danielle Smith is gifting Albertans $100.00 of your own taxpayer money under the guise of an energy rebate. And she’s making the application process as painful as a Stampede bull rider’s bum.
Happily, there is a great way to convert this cynical vote-buying handout into long-term natural dividends for all Albertans. Piikani Nation member Trevor Bastien is investing his First Nation rights in a legal fight to stop the continuing selenium poisoning of Crowsnest Lake trout. He needs your Dani-Dollars or other contribution to carry this constitutional case through the federal court system.
Alberta’s own scientists have proved all tested fish in Crowsnest Lake were poisoned by coal mine selenium to the point they are unfit for human consumption. This is a direct denial of First Nations treaty and constitutional rights to catch and consume wild fish from public waters.
Trevor, son of Harley Bastien, the late Piikani elder and environmental steward, has taken up the legal action started by his father. “Harley’s Vision”, the name Trevor chose for his fight for clean water and healthy fish, honours his Dad’s legacy.
The high-profile law firm Ackroyd, LLP is supporting Trevor with legal representation and pro-bono contributions to his retainer account. However, your Dani-Dollars are needed to cover the full costs of a legal fight we expect to conclude at the Supreme Court of Canada.
Ackroyd has served Demand Letters to Evolve Power (owner of the Tent Mountain coal mine), Environment Alberta, Alberta Energy Regulator and Environment Canada. The cease and desist letter demands that the defendant immediately stop releasing selenium effluent into the Crowsnest Lake and River system and that they undertake a complete removal of accumulated selenium sediment in the lake bottom. None of them has voluntarily agreed to this reasonable and legally required demand.
The next step, which requires your help, is to secure an order from the Court of Appeal forcing the defendants to restore Trevor’s First Nation rights to a healthy Crowsnest fishery.
We are inviting you to turn your Dani-Dollars into positive action for protection of our waters in perpetuity. Your support is appreciated. Trevor’s commitment to fulfilling his Dad’s vision as well as your donation of Dani-Dollars are integral to the success of this initiative.
