"Mature Asset Strategy" - heard of it? It's another devious slam to landowners and the Alberta public by....who else? The GoA.
So far this is about oil and gas but the potential overlap for coal mining would be obvious.

And…..an abandoned coal mine at Tent Mountain.

The orphaned well story is unfortunately, long standing. Despite the Alberta public asking (much of it demanding) that these abandoned wells be cleaned up and the responsibility of that be borne by the oil and gas industry, cleverness has been busy behind closed doors. Imagine that, eh?
Many have questioned Dave Yager’s involvement as Special Advisor to the premier and Board Director with the Alberta Energy Regulator. Mr. Yager’s history in the oil and gas industry for over 50 years makes his “appointed” position within the GoA more than questionable and comes with a very handsome remuneration as well.
But this is about oil and gas you say. For the time being, yes. The link to the following article published by Ecojustice provides the unscrupulous details regarding the Mature Asset Strategy (MAS), and there’s no reason to think that coal mining will be any different, and perhaps even worse. All you need is an industry insider. No problem.
