Sacred Water Arrives at Fort Whoop-Up
American Whiskey Trade Fort that swapped firewater for buffalo robes receives bison horn filled with Oldman River source water from Piikani Buffalo Runners
A bison horn carrying water from the source of the Oldman River was delivered to a joint Piikani-Kainai Blackfoot prayer ceremony June 20 by a team of Buffalo Rivers. The sacred water was carried by foot and canoe over several weeks.
This was the fourth such ceremony this year, all dedicated to recovery of the Crowsnest/Oldman river system from coal-mine selenium poisoning.
