Alberta’s separatist government is retreating under fire from a First Nations assault on the divisive promise to hold a referendum on splitting the province from Canada.
Premier Danielle Smith, a hostage to her party’s most extreme separatists, now says no separation question could threaten First Nations treaty rights.
That means an Alberta of mostly white people punctured by 138 South-African style bantustans of indigenous peoples constitutionally tied to the Government of Canada.
Water management in Alberta would be impossible with fragmented sovereign jurisdictions.
