Where is the transparency within the AER?
It's clearly lacking and Albertans should demand more.
How many of us knew that there was a private meeting between key people from Northback (Hancock Holdings) and the AER? Thankfully, due to the sleuthing work of Andrew Nikiforuk and The Tyee, we are able to get a bit more insight of how this game is being played. However, given that the AER refused to answer most questions put to them, what is uncovered is limited. Thus, the lack of transparency.
To preface the article below, I’d like to share the Mission statement, Vision statement, and Value statement from the AER’s webpage, the Strategic Plan.
Mission:
To provide for the efficient, safe, orderly, and environmentally responsible development of energy and mineral resources in Alberta through our regulatory activities.
Vision:
The AER is a trusted regulator that delivers effective and efficient oversight of resource development.
Values:
Accountability, transparency, trust, respect, and collaboration.
With regard to the notions of: efficient, safe, orderly, environmentally responsible, trusted, effective and efficient oversight, transparency, respect…..well, you can be the judge.

Isn’t this the WHOLE motive of this UCP and Danielle in particular. What about Mr Yager, Alberta energy board member AND $156,000 salary from the UCP. Nothing to see here. Disgusting.
The AER, in its past and present iterations was obviously designed to act as a cover for the oil, gas and now coal extractive industries that have wrecked Alberta's environment over the last 40 years. Hundreds of $Billions in clean up required.
