Why are you only attacking coal mining. What about all mining on the eastern slopes?

It's the sedimentary rocks that host the coal that is the issue, they form the waste dumps, the coal is shipped away. There are open pit mines all over the eastern slopes not just coal. Canmore is a great example.

The open pit mine above Crowsnest Lake is another. And many small operations for sand and gravel. They generate pollution and disturb waterways as much as coal mines do.

Se is not the only product that is an issue in water. Nitrates and carbonates are toxic too.

Interested in your thoughts on this.

And as this article deals with methane, cement is as dirty as steel making for emissions.

Ban cement.

Yes Erik. You are correct. We have in fact talked about this in the past. It's true that any type of mining increases the surface area of the adjoining rock providing greater exposure for contaminant release. This is not news. You keep complaining about this just being about coal. This is what we are dealing with here at the present time. COAL.

But the Alberta government is pushing for mining critical minerals, and there are many non-coal mines in Alberta.

Best to be consistent and shut them all down don't you think?

In fact, Grassy is not an operating mine, so really you're taking your eye off the ball. There are mines north of the TC hwy, Hinton, Cache Creek, that ARE operating as well as two mines in the Bow Valley, one owned by a foreign company. (Even tho MLA Sarah E supports these two mines - and one in BC).

Where is the battle on those one?

Grassy would have to go thru another Reg Process as CEO Young said to Macloed last night (recording on the Headwaters' site).

So instead of spending your time fighting a mine that doesn't exist ("Zombie Mine") you should be fighting the ones that do!!

Erik.
