This is so disheartening, Lorne, and I believe one could make the same sort of list for education, health care. etc. etc. It always reminds me of a line in one of my favourite movies of all time: First Knight. Guinevere says of Malagant: "What does he want? To destroy the whole world and become king of a graveyard?" In the movie...he is defeated, after inflicting great suffering. And so it goes...on and on and on.
I agree. I believe we need a new party to vote for. A "balanced" body of the plane. I have been pretty dedicated to bringing awareness to Albertans in regards to Fracking; Coal Mining; Peat Moss Extraction etc and I'm tired of no public consultation and an energy Act, when it was gutting by industry in 2013/14 by deleting the 4 most important words, "in the Public Interest. I do not think rural alberta will choose the opposition so some new faces with common sense and balance would sure be welcome.
I'm not sure we have the time to start over from scratch. It might be better to throw our support to the opposition. They've already made a firm commitment to end the coal mining.
The problem in Alberta may be, that we want things fixed, but nothing substantial changed. Our one horse economy makes it difficult to imagine a world without extraction. Even Carney can't quite get his mind around the reality that fossil fuels fuel our rather rapid move to Hot House Earth......so all over the planet, we're all in on various energy wars.......and deliberately obtuse when it comes to global warming.
Genocide leaves us rather cold and apolitical as well, alas.
We badly need to rid ourselves of the UCP. Doing so may require convincing a lot of Albertans that this stuff REALLY MATTERS. That may be a difficult task because many Albertans have been exposed to decades of conservative propaganda. They tended to leave government to the elected cons and put their own efforts into chasing dollars. This will be a hard nut to crack but we have do do it if we want to have a sustainable world.
Everyone interested in the future of our province needs to get their heads out of the sand and open their eyes to the obvious. Alberta's wild mountain country is in the process of being torn apart, for the interests of forestry and fossil fuel extraction, interests that are more often than not those of foreign corporations........often American based.
When Trump speculated on Canada becoming the 51st state, he was talking about Alberta.....and possibly our north country. From what the UCP are doing and refusing to do, it looks to me like the Americans are going to have us.........without the bother of a military border crossing.
Danielle Smith and the UCP will work hand in glove with well heeled heels to turn us into a sacrifice zone of resource development.........forgetting, as have parts of the Middle East, that you can only last 3 days without water.

I was transferred out of Quebec after the 1995 separatist referendum to Alberta. My employer will up and leave Alberta. They left Montreal after 100+ years … Alberta is such a backward province now under UCP. Half the province is a bunch of rednecks high on their own bloody arrogance and ignorant as hell.
